Plants vs. Zombies is a must have.  I hate starting out reviews by giving away the ending but it can’t be helped.  I might as well tell you that you’ll be reading the gushiest review you have ever seen, so you might as well know where it’s going from the beginning.  Wow, where to start?  First off, this game is wonderfully creative, hilarious, lasts a very long time and is extremely well made.  It costs $2.99 and I doubt you can find 3 separate $.99 games that can combine into a game worth near as much as this one.

It all starts with the gameplay.  It’s a typical tower defense game in some ways.  However, it has so much strategy, especially when you get to the higher levels that I don’t want to compare it to your typical tower defense type game.  Instead, this is a whole new breed.  You own a home that zombies would like to break into and eat your brains.  Apparently you have quite the green thumb and can utilize plants to fend the zombies off round after round.  Each of the plants you plant has different characteristics that either destroy the zombies or slow them down.  There are a TON of different plant types.  There are also a ton of different zombie types.  Making the gameplay even more difficult, you only have a limited amount of plants you can pick to use in any one round.  You need to pick them wisely based on the view of the zombies lined up on the street.  Awesome zombies mixed with chess style strategy equals awesome gameplay.

The music used throughout the game is phenomenal.  In fact, the sound throughout fits perfectly.  The graphics are all very colorful and wonderful to look at.  The zombie animations are hilarious and you will see zombies that will try to pole vault their way over your defenses and get into your house.  Just wait until you see your last ditch line of defense, it’s simply hilarious.  Even the menu is fun; check out the help section on the main menu and find an easter egg.

The controls are extremely easy to get used to.  As you place plants a highlighted area pops up on the screen that shows where you will be planting your defenses.  To power your plants, you grow sunflowers that pop out sunbeams every 10 seconds or so.  Those sunbeams are what give you the ability to plant additional defenses.  After every 5-10 levels there are mini games thrown in and a neighbor you get to meet.  All of which are done with a ton of humor and make for a lot of fun.

I told you this review would be glowing.  I have no excuse for that other than I warned you.  This is simply the best game of 2010 so far on the App Store.  It can be played by any age group, anytime, anywhere.  I have no negatives to list.  If you have never bought a game on the App Store, this is the one to buy.  If you are a huge App Store gamer, this is a must buy.
