Fantasy Date is an odd one. Basically it is a game that revolves around a subject that App Store developers can never really deliver to you on your iPhone; sex. At the end of a date, you leave without getting what you knew you couldn’t have all along. When it doesn’t happen, it’s a bit disappointing but the ride to the end isn’t too bad if you’re into pretty girls, dating shows or just enjoy a bit of tongue in cheek humor.
The game itself gives you four different girls that you have the possibility of dating (you can currently download an additional 3 ladies by ponying up $.99). All of these are real ladies that have multiple videos that take you along for a storybook tale of finding someone and hooking up (without the hooking up part). For example, one of the girls happens to be a cop that arrests you and later may meet you for a date. From there, depending on how you answer a series of questions (much like a Choose Your Own Adventure book), you may just end up in her hot tub and on her bed. Unfortunately the stories only last about 10-15 minutes each and once you finish one, there are not a lot of reasons to go back and play them again.
Your character, which is never fully shown during the videos, sees the girls in 1st person view. You can see his hands, answer the girls’ questions but basically that’s the end of what you can do within the game. The stories themselves are pretty ridiculous but do have some decent humor thrown in. If you have watched any late night Cinemax, you know how a lot of them begin but unfortunately you won’t see the same kind of ending here on your iPhone or iPod Touch. No, when it comes down to the goodnight “kiss”, you’re left only to imagine what happens. Of course for some guys, that’s the norm anyway.
That all being said, if you’re a guy that doesn’t mind plopping down a few bucks to be part of a hokey story that involves some really hot girls, Fantasy Date is worth the cash. Just be ready to finish the story by hand (get it?). However, if you are hoping to see something more risqué or play a character that is truly part of a story, this might not be for you.
