Spinzizzle is an interesting name for a common genre type for the iPhone, the match 3. You know the ones; you have balls or objects of different colors and you need to match 3 of them together in order to move onto the next stage where you do the same thing over and over again. Personally, I’m just not much into this kind of gameplay. I like casual gaming experiences but I like a bit more action in my diet. That being sad, my wife liked this game so I think it’s just a different strokes for different folks scenario.
Objectively, this game isn’t that great looking. In fact, having just played another matching game from Disney, this doesn’t look nearly as good. I rated that game somewhere around a 3/5 stars overall and the reason I did so is because it didn’t have a lot going on. Sure there was a city to re-light (you had to bring the electricity back on by matching colors) but otherwise, it was a fairly simplistic game and this game has even less of a plot.
In fact, the entire gameplay revolves around you spinning a wheel and trying to get little colored orbs to fall into the correct socket. The more that you get of the same color to fall into the socket, the more points you get. The stages are many and extremely quick. Sometimes you’ll finish off a stage in just a few seconds and sometimes it can frustratingly take much longer.
The game offers both a story and action mode. Story mode links a bunch of levels together and action mode tends to have more explosions. The Story mode contains 21 levels and 4 wild card balls. Besides the typical balls, these ones will give you additional bonus points if used correctly and help you receive new achievements via OpenFeint.
There are a lot of people who are going to like the serene background music, simple spinning controls that allow the balls to move and fall into place, and the imaginative backgrounds. For me though, it’s just another matching game. If you find yourself to be part of the massive collective that like these kinds of games, take a look at the Spinzizzle’s free version. If you like a little more action, even from your casual gaming experience, this is a pass.
