Doodle God manages to be unique, mesmerizing and wonderful. It takes such a simple concept and expands upon it until it really is a must buy game. What makes Doodle God so good? It’s certainly not the Doodle moniker which really has nothing at all to do with any other Doodle-type game you have played in the past. It’s certainly not that it is yet another puzzle game in the vast array already available on the App Store. It really boils down to how it makes you feel when you play and that feeling is worth chasing.
The game’s concept works like this. You are a god that has a particularly zest for creating new items, things, and life out of basic elements. You start with only 4; fire, water, wind and earth and you don’t stop creating until you hit more than 140 (in the most current update). Along the way you will come up with fabulous inventions and life by combining elements to make something new. How do you start the game? Simply take one element and drag it over to the next. I don’t want to ruin any of the surprises along the way. One easy way to start is by pulling the fire element over to the water element. Congratulations, you have birthed your first new element; steam.
I have created 100+ elements in my 3 hours of play. I decided that I didn’t want to look at anyone’s answers on how they conquered the entire list. It’s a lot more fun guessing and testing your way to creating an egg. The best part of the whole process is that when you get stuck, have no fear. A light bulb continuously counts down from 2 minutes or so at the bottom of the screen. Once that bulb lights up, your next hint is ready. These hints are invaluable because they keep you going when you think there is nothing else you can possibly create.
The sense of creation and Civilization/SimCity type god play is substantial. For each new creation, a random quote or proverb will come up that relates to the new creation. For each new item there are several of these available. These simple notes really inject some humor into the game and are just another nice touch. You’ll find that throughout the game, there are many nice touches thrown in here and there. For .99 cents, this game is a steal. Buy it.
