“No whammies, no whammies, no whammies…stop”! Or, if you prefer, “come on down”! The developers at Ludia have done a great job adapting these game shows on to the iPad. They kept the same great formats from the classic shows but now you are in the front row competing for all of the prizes.
Press Your Luck has got to be one of my all time favorite game shows and this iPad title of the same name does it total justice. As you start your game you are asked to create your character. You can choose from a variety of hair styles, glasses, shirts, shoes, and pants. As you play games and win, you will unlock more and more clothes and hair styles so you can keep customizing your character. This same format is used for The Price is Right.
The graphics are very good on both games. The Price is Right even uses real video from the mini games and showcases, so you actually see the real product you are bidding on. The backgrounds and stages all look exactly like the TV sets. The Press Your Luck game has the rotating set just like the old game show. The Price is Right graphics are surprisingly spot-on for all of the mini games and especially the showcase showdowns. The game’s audio sounds so good it’s like you’ve left the TV on in the other room. It really does feel like you are playing the real game show. The announcers’ sound just like they do on TV and the mini game sound effects are exactly the same as the show.
I won’t bore you with explaining the gameplay of each game. I’m sure you are aware of how each game is played but I will say this; both games are extremely fun and true to the experience you may have always imagined as a contestant. Also, if you have friends around that want to play, each game offers a multiplayer mode that allows three players for Press Your Luck and four players for The Price is Right – nice.
Both of these games are worth taking a long look at. While they will run you $6.99 each, the amount of gameplay and fun quickly makes that number feel less. In my opinion the only thing that could make these games any better would be if you really got to keep the prizes!
