It’s the New Year which means it’s time to lose weight, learn a new language, travel the world, etc. In my case I am trying to do at least the first one. I doubt learning a new language will ever work for me. I took 4 years of Spanish and I stumble on any words harder than 3 letters and Java was yet another language I failed to learn in the past. That being said, I would love to travel a bit if some money fell in my lap (unlikely to occur) so I am working on the first choice.

Losing weight has benefits besides general healthiness. It usually means eating less food which means your overall food costs are less (especially eating out). It also means that you get to try out new technology that you wouldn’t normally use. In this case I’m talking about the FREE iPhone app, Lose It! I began using Lose It! 9 days ago and wanted to write down my thoughts and an invitation for you guys to Lose It! with me in 2011.

Basically the program allows you to add in all of the foods you ate for the day.  It has a ton of choices including menu items at restaurants.  It counts all of the calories up as you go and gives you a running total of how many you have left to use. When you first load it up it will ask you your weight, age, sex, and goal weight. Once it knows that, it will ask you for how many pounds you would like to lose per week. It takes that information and gives you both the number of calories you should eat in order to lose that weight and the estimated day you will be down to your goal weight. I love stuff like this!

The more I can immerse myself in technology, goals, graphs, analytics, etc – the better. The cool thing about Lose It! is that is also syncs with their website so you can enter in your food choices there and go back and have all of the info on your iPhone app or vice versa. You can also enter in any exercise you do which will will (based on how many calories you burned while exercising) increase the number of calories you can eat that day.

The program also has a social networking aspect that works much like Facebook. You can invite your friends to join you and lose weight. Each day you will get updates from your friends about how they are doing along with how much weight they lost.  I’m inviting anyone that is interested to join and add me as a friend. My email address for the program is cpsharp [at] gmail [dot] com The site claims that the average user loses 12.3 pounds using their program and that 80+ percent of all people lose weight.  I can handle that.

Download Lose It! for free and add me as a friend.
