Asplosion! HD is a chain reaction game where you try to explode as many circles as possible. If you have ever heard of a game called Boomshine, it is a lot like that. However, Asplosion! HD takes the chain reaction game to the next level by adding differently types of projectiles with different circles.
For example, the light blue circles shoot out four small circles, one up, one down, one left, and one right. The green circles shoot four small circles in the four diagonal corners. The dark blue, blow out a ring that shrinks back in after a few seconds. These different types of explosions really add a need for strategy. There are a few other types along with a purple circle with an “X” but you can figure those out on your own.
The graphics are great. To be honest, I really haven’t seen bad graphics on an iPad game yet and if I have, it was obviously forgettable. The gameplay screen is simple and well done. The circles, which are the main part of the game, are delightfully straightforward. The music, like all good games, is well matched with this style of game and takes a complementary backseat to the gameplay.
The controls are quite simple; to start the chain reaction all you have to do is tap on of the indicated type of circle (the indicator is on the top of the screen next to the score). As far as controls go, that is it. That is all this highly addictive game needs.
I’m going to be totally honest with you. I love this game. When I first discovered Boomshine while in college I played it constantly. Now that I have Asplosion! HD, the old memories are coming back. Now I can only hope they release updates with more levels! There are 60 levels overall, but to unlock the last 12 you must earn blue stars (blue stars are awarded when you get explode more circles than necessary to move on) on previous levels. This alone will keep you playing for hours and hours.
