Jab. Jab. Hook. Boxing games have always been around but most have been a swing and a miss, pun intended. Down 4 the Count, from the developers at Astraware, is not one of those games. With style that is similar to the best boxing game of all time, Mike Tyson’s Punch Out, but also superb controls and gameplay, Down 4 the Count is a hit. Yes, also intended...

Attack and Destroy

Attack & Destroy is a strategic turn-based game where you control and lead a small three member team into battle. Your team can consist of a shotgun toting Grunt, a sneaky Sniper, a Technician with toys, and a quick moving Scout. Each character has special powers that can be used every other turn, for example; the Grunt has a forward charge that increases his speed, the Scout can reveal hidden landmines, the Sniper can turn invisible, and the Technician can set up gun turrets. Obviously the trick is that each one of these team members brings something different to each battle so you have to choose wisely when creating a team for each specific mission...

Phoenix Spirit

Filled with detailed exploration, secret powers, a host of assorted enemies and maze-like puzzles, Phoenix Spirit is the latest adventure release from Spearhead Entertainment. Utilizing an interesting tilt-based control system, players embark on a journey to save the Mother Tree from losing its life force and perishing, much to the dismay of our flying squirrel hero. Designed in a similar style to classics such as Metroid or Castlevania, Phoenix Spirit is decent, but falls short of the games it attempts to emulate...

The Package is an ingenious puzzle game. It really is. Puzzle games are one of the most commonly represented games of all genres on the App Store. That's why unfortunately is so hard for new developers with good games to break through. I'm hoping that is not the case for the developers of The Package, a game where your job is to deliver a package using nothing more than MacGyver like widgets and tools...

Fantasy Date

Fantasy Date is an odd one. Basically it is a game that revolves around a subject that App Store developers can never really deliver to you on your iPhone; sex. At the end of a date, you leave without getting what you knew you couldn’t have all along. When it doesn’t happen, it’s a bit disappointing but the ride to the end isn’t too bad if you’re into pretty girls, dating shows or just enjoy a bit of tongue in cheek humor...

Super KO Boxing 2

Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!! for the NES is one of the most beloved games from the NES era. In Super KO Boxing 2, Glu Mobile brings a re-imagined version of that classic to the iPhone and iPod Touch market. With over 15 wildly different opponents, this game has a good amount of fun and challenge to be had, if you accept that it’s not so much a boxing game as a memory and timing battle...
